Plains All American and Valero Energy Corporation proposed a high-pressure crude oil 50-mile pipeline across a pristine drinking water aquifer in Memphis, Tennessee and northern Mississippi. Our local leaders thought they could do nothing to stop them or regulate the zoning of their project. That aquifer provides drinking water to more than one million people. If built, the pipeline will cross over the aquifer in an active earthquake zone, and it would’ve crossed a municipal wellfield that supplies drinking water to local Black residents in Memphis.
A land agent for the pipeline stated that the company chose to site the pipeline in Boxtown because it is “the point of least resistance.” Moreover, the pipeline company has a known history of significant oil spills.
Now, our leaders can and must act. Please help us take action to get them to vote on laws that protect our community into the future.

The City of Memphis and its people have been threatened with the Byhalia Pipeline that can contaminate all of the City’s drinking water. Former Vice President Al Gore, a leader in Climate Change and Environmental Justice described the Byhalia Pipeline as a Racy, Reckless, Rip-off. Bishop Rev. William J. Barber II , the Moral leader of our time, gave a resounding mantra to the message in opposition to the Byhalia Pipeline. Not Here, Not Now, Not Ever, Not on our watch.
